Match Report: Penybont Women 2-0 Carmarthen Town Women

Bont’s 100% record in the Adran South continued this afternoon, as Leon Williams’ side overcame Carmarthen 2-0, thanks to a dominant display.

Superiority from set pieces was the difference in West Wales, with both goals coming from free-kicks.

A spectacular Maddie Priday long range effort opened the scoring, before Carys Minton rose highest to make the points safe.

Bont had the first chance of the game. A fantastic cross from Katie Rowles after good combination play down the right hand side with Erin Bater found the head of Catrin Edwards but she could not divert her effort goalwards.

The progressive style installed by manager Leon Williams was on full display throughout, with Bont keeping the ball on the floor well and dominating possession.

Bont stung the palms of Carmarthen ‘keeper Ashman several times in the first half, with efforts from outside of the box by Catrin Edwards and Maddie Priday well saved.

Katie Rowles performed well throughout the first half but was forced off at the break through injury.

Bont had been in command throughout the match and finally took the lead through a spectacular Maddie Priday free kick in the 56th minute. The Bont skipper looked as if she was shaping up to deliver a cross from around 30 yards but her effort took Ashman by surprise and she was unable to deal with the effort that hit the bar and snuck in.

Carmarthen did have chances midway through the second half, but they only once stung the palms of Bont keeper Molly Bird.

Bont’s superiority from set pieces was the difference again for the second goal. Carys Minton rose highest in a crowd of bodies to power a header home and double Bont’s lead with just under 10 minutes to go.

From there, Bont saw the game out well to continue our unbeaten start in the Adran South.

Bont host Cascade YC next weekend in the second qualifying round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup. Kick off is at 2pm on Sunday.
