A dominant second half performance from Cascade saw the visitors beat Bont 5-1 at the Dragonbet Stadium in a Genero Adran Trophy match where the two sides had been level at halftime.
Megan Clarke continued her excellent goalscoring form with the only goal for Bont, while a hattrick from Ellis Lunn for Cascade gave them the platform to go on to victory. Their other goals were scored by captain Annaliese Lewis and Trinity Reakes.
It was a match that took its time to come alive, with the first shot not being registered until 18 minutes in. The visitors had the better of the early chances, going close twice within a short period of time. Ellis Lunn timed her run well to break past the Bont backline and get on the end of a good through ball. Her dinked effort over Molly Bird crept just wide.
Less than a minute later Lunn had another attempt. A tame effort from the edge of the six yard box went straight at Bont keeper Molly Bird who got down well to hold.
The visitors would then break the deadlock though. A fantastic looping cross from deep by Ffion Simmonds evaded Poppi Coggins and fell to Lunn for Cascade who slotted past an onrushing Molly Bird from the edge of the box and into the bottom corner.
Bont would respond just four minutes later though. Bryanna Demery played a testing ball over the top to Cascade keeper Ceryn Chamberlain which Megan Clarke pressed well. With the keeper failing to clear her lines, Clarke was able to chip the ball over several stricken Cascade players and into an empty net to equalise.
Cascade went close to retaking the lead in additional time at the end of the first half with Lunn again making an intelligent run to get behind the Penybont backline. She attempted to beat Bird at her near post but the Bont keeper stuck a leg out to divert the ball away for a corner.
It took only four minutes of the second half for the visitors to retake the lead. Lunn continued to pose the same threat as she showed in the first half and used her pace to get in between the Bont centre backs. Bont keeper Molly Bird got a touch on the ball as Lunn slotted past her but the touch was not enough to divert it away from her goal.
Less than a minute later a similar move gave the Cascade forward the chance for a hattrick. She checked back from the left hand side of the box past a Bont defender after pouncing on a loose ball before cooly slotting past Molly Bird and into the bottom left corner.
The visitors would make it 4-1 on the hour mark from a corner. Ffion Simmonds showed herself to have a fantastic cross in the first half and her delivery was met by Cascade captain Annaliese Lewis to give the visitors a commanding lead.
Winger Trinity Reakes made it 5-1, when she found herself unmarked on the right hand side of the penalty box. She was able to dribble into the six yard box before slotting past Molly Bird at the near post.
Cascade captain Lewis rattled the post from distance a few minutes later before the ball rebounded to Reakes who had a chance to notch her second of the afternoon. However, her cross-cum-shot across the face of goal did not find any runners.
The defeat sees Bont eliminated from the Genero Adran Trophy. We will face Cascade again in two weeks in the second qualifying round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.
Next weekend, Bont women travel to face Carmarthen in our second game of the season in the Adran South.
