A five-star performance from Bont meant Rhys Griffiths’ side triumphed spectacularly over Cardiff Met, to continue a fantastic start to the season for Bont.
Tom Mehew scored a fantastic hattrick; including a spectacular third, as well as goals from Nathan Wood and Tyler Walker to give the travelling Bont fans an afternoon to remember.
Bont scored a collection of memorable goals. Nathan Wood’s opener was a moment of magic out of nothing, while Tyler Walker thundered his effort high into the net from close range. The pick of the bunch though was the goal to complete Tom Mehew’s hattrick; a perfect touch before a confident finish into the bottom corner.
A cagey opening 20 minutes saw few chances. The first of the game was created by good work down the left hand side by Nathan Wood. Chris Venables poked a shot at goal after a good cross, but the shot was straight at Cardiff Met ‘keeper Arron Davies, who gathered comfortably.
The best chance of the early stages fell to the home side, and on-loan striker Sam Snaith. On the edge of the six yard box, the striker found space but his effort went just wide of Alex Pennock’s goal. This effort would prove to be the closest the home side went to scoring all afternoon.
The opening game came from very little. Nathan Wood found himself in space around 30 yards out from the Cardiff Met goal, and took on a speculative effort from range. His inch-perfect shot nestled into the bottom left hand corner beyond the desperate grasp of Davies in the Cardiff Met goal.
Just two minutes later, the lead was doubled. Wood turned provider this time, playing a testing ball into the box. Cardiff Met got the first contact on the ball, but a tame headed clearance fell to the feet of Tom Mehew, who crashed an effort home from close range.
Bont completed a haul of three goals in seven minutes, when Tyler Walker scored for the third fixture in a row. He powered a close range effort high over Arron Davies who was beaten at his near post.
Bont ensured the second half began how the first had ended, by grabbing a fourth after 59 minutes. Tom Mehew doubled his tally for the afternoon, after timing his run brilliantly on the shoulder of the last defender. He finished well through the legs of Arron Davies one on one to grab his seventh of the season.
His season tally stood at seven for only two minutes. A Dennis Bergkamp-esque touch and finish to roll the ball around a Cardiff Met defender created another one on one chance. He then slotted confidently into the bottom corner from the left hand side of the box, to complete his hattrick.
Jonathan Leko had a chance to make it six from close range after getting on the end of an Ethan Cann cross unmarked in the box. However, he was not able to divert his close range header goalwards.
Bont return home next week to take on Caernarfon on Friday night, in the first match of the second round of Cymru Premier fixtures this season.
